Secondary supervisor(s): Professor Lettie Bishop / Dr Lewis James /
Professor Jonathan Wells (University College London) / Professor David Raubenheimer (University of Sydney)

Yvanna graduated with a First Class Honours degree in Nutrition from King’s College London in 2020. Throughout her time as an undergraduate, she undertook research internships in a broad spectrum of nutrition topics including early nutrition in an animal model, the Geometric Framework, and the health benefits of prebiotics in blackcurrants in a human trial. She has been awarded the King Undergraduate Research Fellowship award for her poster in the summer of 2019. Her current work will continue within the principles of the Geometric Framework with a focus on life history shifts associated with energetic stress.

Research

Her current project is evaluating the mismatch between our evolved biological mechanisms for energy balance and the modern environment. Specific environmental stresses include physical activity, urban environments, and lactation. Primary outcomes will be ad libitum energy intake and macronutrient composition of the selected meal. This project will identify groups who are vulnerable to a mismatch in energetic balance and allow for more targeted public health interventions.
