Waste and recycling guidance

To improve the part that we can all play in the University being a responsible organisation towards the way in which it manages its waste, could we please update you on the latest initiatives and policy relating to the way in which we would wish to dispose of our waste and ask for your support and involvement.
To play our part in the area of recycling there have been trials taking place to reduce waste that goes to landfill and this has been rolled out across the University over the past months. some of the first trials took place in our own department so that we can lead by example whilst assessing the process.
At present we recycle:
Paper, Plastics, Cans, Wood, Computers, Cardboard and Printer Cartridges.
If you are interested in Recycling any of the above please see guidelines below:
Could we please ask you to follow the guidelines set out below for recycling.

Cardboard
Facilities Management operatives would be grateful if you could break down boxes as flat as possible to aid removal.
Computers, peripherals, electrical and electronic items (WEEE)
The University has a duty to recycle computers and peripherals through a responsible scheme. A scheme to assist with this has been implemented as follows. Please complete a disposal form.
On completion of the form please email it to waste@lboro.ac.uk. It is imperative that the hard drives are wiped clean of any information before requesting the disposal. Please note that computers and WEEE items can not be disposed of with general waste and therefore they should not be placed in any of the skips around the site.
Printer cartridges
Printer cartridges may be recycled through a system that supports charities and the boxes for the disposal of these are kept in your caretaker's / cleaning supervisor's office.
Confidential waste
The University has a confidential paper waste disposal service. There is a charge of £6.50 per large bag of waste and £5.00 for the smaller bag, for this service. The process is to email waste@lboro.ac.uk along with your room number, and the number of bags that you require. The bags will be delivered to you upon this request. When the bags are ready for collection please email fmhelp@lboro.ac.uk or telephone extension 222121 and we will arrange for pick up. Please do not leave the bags in corridors as this can become a hazard.
An alternative to this service is for you to purchase your own 'cross-cut' shredder. Please contact the purchasing office or ESPO for further advice if required.
General waste bins
These bins will be emptied on a reduced lift to once a week. Any food which is either purchased or brought on to the premises should be disposed of in the kitchen bin and not the general waste bins as these bins will be on a reduced emptying regime.
Your co-operation in this important area of recycling is appreciated so that we can all play our part in being part of a responsible organisation.
