Electricity consumption in 2010/11 was 31.7 million kWh.
Historically the university has purchased green electricity but during the contract renewals in 2010 it was found the cost of Green electricity was too much to still be a viable option to us.
In order to reduce the environmental impact and carbon emissions associated with electrical use. The University is investigating the feasibility of installing a wind turbine to generate ‘Green Electricity’
During 2009 the Universities Energy awareness campaign It’s Better OFF saved 5.75% of the universities electricity consumption, which equates to £119,000 and 708 t/CO2 in its first year. This was by promoting better awareness of consumption, waste and implementation of no costs / low cost measures to reduce consumption.

Loughborough University has a national reputation for taking action on environmental issues. To continue this, we have launched a campaign entitled ‘It’s Better OFF’ to raise awareness about climate change and its causes as well as the practical things we can all do to improve our environment.
