Green Impact
What is Green Impact?
Green Impact is a sustainable accreditation scheme that helps to raise awareness and promote pro-environmental behaviour. University staff (and students if appropriate) make up teams to attain ‘working towards’,‘Bronze’ or ‘Silver’ awards by completing environmental actions aimed to green the workplace. Teams can also compete against each other to achieve the coveted Gold Award which is only available to the top scoring team.
Who takes part?
Green Impact is open to ALL University staff and students as well as staff within subsidiary companies on site.

How does it work?
Teams made up of staff (and students if appropriate) within university departments sign up online » to participate in Green Impact. They are given access to an online workbook » which details practical, easy to implement and no or low cost actions to complete. The workbook is tailored specifically to Loughborough University. Teams are encouraged to complete the 20 Bronze actions while Silver and Bonus criteria are optional.
The scheme is flexible and self-organised so that teams can focus on the actions that most interest them and find their own ways of implementing the actions.
Teams can either get competitive and go for the Gold Award or work at a more leisurely pace towards any level that they feel comfortable with – every action completed makes a difference.
Workbooks are to be submitted around Easter time each year at which point auditors will come round to informally check that the workbooks accurately reflect the actions completed during the project.
The results are announced at an Awards Ceremony » which will celebrate and promote each team’s achievements.
For those departments with Labs, there is a separate criteria and award scheme, specific to the environmental impact of labs, which teams can either choose to undertake alongside the standard criteria or instead of.
