Humanism
Humanism is a
democratic and ethical life stance, which affirms that humans give meaning and
shape to their own lives and that the only forces in the universe that we can
look to for help are other human beings. It stands for the building of a more
humane society, that puts emphasis on human relationships rather than
consumption, with an ethic based on human and other natural values. It does not
accept supernatural views of reality.
Whilst there
is no specific local group in Loughborough, there is a small group of
freethinkers who meet up in a pub most months called Loughborough Logic (www.lborologic.info).
Leicester Secular Society is affiliated to the British Humanist Association and
has meetings/talks at Secular Hall on most Sunday evenings (6-30pm) as well as
organising some other events (www.leicestersecularsociety.org.uk).
