University self-catering halls of residence
The University has invested in a substantial building programme for campus-based residences.
“The Student Accommodation team is very helpful and they had already arranged private accommodation next to the campus. This was confirmed to me through email, which gave me peace of mind before travelling.”
Adam Jait, Brunei Darussalam – MSc student
At our new John Phillips Hall there are 298 en-suite rooms dedicated to postgraduate students.
All our self-catered postgraduate hall accommodation is on a 50-week let, and is within walking distance of the campus and close to local amenities such as shops and banks.
We have five self-catering halls available to postgraduates – students can choose to cook for themselves or to eat at one of the many venues on campus. We are sure you will want to take advantage of our diners+ option giving you flexible access to superb value, great choice and healthy option meals in our various outlets.
You will find the rents competitive and affordable, and the atmosphere friendly and supportive. You will be invoiced over three terms and all prices include utilities, internet access and insurance.

Off-campus accommodation
If you prefer to live off-campus in the private sector, the Student Accommodation Centre can help you find suitable accommodation. All accommodation is privately owned and is inspected by the University to ensure they meet the standards set down in an Accreditation Scheme which is run in partnership with Charnwood Borough Council.
Most private sector accommodation in Loughborough is within a 2 mile radius of the campus – well within walking distance! There is also a local bus service, which runs frequently between the campus and the train station via the town centre.
You may want to come to Loughborough a couple of weeks before your course begins so you can look for accommodation. Most landlords prefer the accommodation to be viewed prior to offering a tenancy. We have overnight and short term accommodation available on campus in the University Lodge – contact unilodge@lboro.ac.uk for further information and bookings.
Our Student Accommodation Centre offers:
- a friendly, free and efficient service
- approximately 450 houses registered
There is a large variation of rents in the private sector reflecting location, size, condition and style of fixtures and fittings. The following is a guideline to assist you when choosing your accommodation.
- Single room in shared student house: £2,340 – £4,680 per year
- Houses and flats: £5,700 – £8,400 per year
Assured Shorthold Tenancies for private sector accommodation for postgraduate students are usually 52 weeks.
