Increases the visibility of Loughborough University research, helps the research reporting exercise and

- New Books
Track new books coming into the Library using RSS feeds or sign up for SDI alerts via the Library catalogue.
- New E-Journals
See the listing of the latest e-journals to be added to the Library's holdings. Updated monthly.
- Professional online search service
Provides access to searches of specialised databases, such as Derwent World Patents Index, Dissertation Abstracts, Library Literature, Kompass Wilson, Business Abstracts, which are not available via MetaLib. The searches are performed on behalf of academic staff or researchers by Library staff.
- Remote Working Portal
Login to this service using your University username and password to access most e-journals from off campus, without needing your Athens username and password. The portal also provides access to electronic resources which were previously only available on-campus, such as MathsSciNet and Index to Theses.

Resources beyond Lboro
- Inter-Library Loans
It is possible to borrow books and obtain journal articles and book chapters from other Libraries using our Inter-Library Loans service.
- Sconul Access
This scheme allows researchers to join and borrow from around 170 participating institutions in the UK and Ireland.
- British Library
Please see the British Library website for information about how to register for a Reader's Pass and information about advance requests for material. The BL also offers very useful, free training sessions on specific subject areas for new postgraduate students.
- Theses
Loughborough University theses can be searched via the Library Catalogue, whilst Metalib provides access to the Index to Theses database for information about theses from the UK and Ireland.
- EThOS
A new service that enables requestors to view and order UK theses directly. The service entitled Electronic Theses Online System (EThOS) enables students, researchers, and in fact anyone else with an interest in postgraduate research theses material, to search EThOS and to access, from the desktop, the full text, in secure format, of electronically stored theses.

- Academic Librarians
Your Academic Librarian is your main contact with the Library and is happy to help you with any information related question, large or small. Please email, telephone or pop in to the Library to see your Academic Librarian whenever you need some advice about accessing information or have any queries about Library services. The more that they know about your research needs, the more they can help you during your time at Loughborough.
- Training
The Library, in conjunction with the Graduate School, Staff Development and IT Services, provides a range of Information Literacy courses for new research postgraduate students as well as established Academic Staff and Research Associates. See the Library webpages and courses in the Library section on Learn for information about this year's sessions.
- Keeping up-to-date
Keeping your research up-to-date is important for all researchers. Advice about about how to do this effectively is available on Learn (N.B. You will need to sign in to Learn using your Loughborough username and password), via training courses and from your Academic Librarian.
REF& Where to publish
- REF support
For the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise, the Library provided advice about how to locate Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs). The Library will continue support researchers in the future Research Excellence Framework, in whatever format it takes for the different disciplines.
- Journal Citation Reports
JCR is database by which researchers can check the impact factor of a journal or see the ranking of journals in particular subject areas. Alongside, the ISI Web of Science databases, which are used to check journal article citation counts, it is a key source for checking bibliometrics and for aiding the selection of journals in which to publish. It is available within Metalib.
- Ulrich's
Ulrich's web database provides information about journal titles within subject categories, including reviews of the journal. It is available within Metalib.
University support
- Research Office
The "Research Office underpins the University's efforts to manage its research activity in a strategic, streamlined and effective manner." Its website provides information about the financial side of the research process as well as the promotion of Loughborough University research activities.
- Research Student Office
The Research Student Office provides advice to research students, both prospective and current, as well as to academic departments.
