Set Up PowerPoint Presenter View Handout

Screen shot: PowerPoint 2007.

How do we set up Presenter view?

The first thing to do is to make sure that your projector is switched on, and make sure that your laptop is talking to both your LCD screen display and the projector.

On my laptop there is a key marked "Fn" between the Control and Alt keys on the left hand side of the keyboard. If I hold this down and press "F5" I can choose between just This display or This display AND the CRT (which means the projector). [I can choose the projector on its own or a TV]

Select LCD/CRT.

Screen shot: LCD/CRT selected.

After a moment the projector is displaying the same as on my screen.

The second thing I need to do is to Right-click on the desktop, and choose Properties from the pop-up menu.

Desktop pop-up menu.

Choose the Settings tab.

Click on Screen 2 and ensure that Extend my Windows desktop on to this monitor is selected.

Display Properties - Settings tab.

Click Apply and after a moment you will see a normal windows display on your (laptop) screen, and just a plain desktop on the projector - a desktop with no icons, no Start button, or anything else. Click OK to close that.

Next we start up PowerPoint. Select the Slide Show tab.

Select Use Presenter View [in the Monitors group of controls] and make sure that Show Presentation On is set to Monitor 2 Default Monitor, which means the projector. If you set it to Primary Monitor then YOU will see the slide show, and the Presenter View will be on the projector, which is fine if you want to show Presenter View to somebody else.

When we start the slide show from the beginning [clicks From Beginning in the Show Slide Show group of controls] on my screen I have the Presenter View, and on the Projector I have the normal Slide Show.
