Remote Working Client for Linux

Cisco AnyConnect Installation Instructions

You need to Install Cisco AnyConnect on the off campus Linux computer.

Getting Started

These instructions are based on CentOS. Minor changes to the process may be required for other distributions or desktop environments.

To start a Remote Working connection on the off campus computer:

  1. Launch the AnyConnect client.

    Applications menu: Internet.

  2. If this is the first time you have used the client then please click on the Preferences button (the icon of two gears next to the Connect to: box).

    In the window which opens please ensure Enable Local LAN access (if configured) is ticked and then click on Close.

  3. Type in vpn.lboro.ac.uk into the Connect to: box and click Connect.

  4. The first time you connect you will be asked to accept the University's security certificate.

  5. Enter your University username and password into the appropriate boxes and click Connect again.

  6. The client will disappear into the system tray on successful connection.

You are now connected to the Loughborough VPN. You can now access campus based resources as it your PC was on campus - for instance ssh access to servers.

If you double click on the system tray icon, this statistics window will appear:

To disconnect, bring up the above statistics box, select the Connection tab and click Disconnect.
