Windows Step 3: Antivirus Software
Loughborough University offers all students McAfee VirusScan Enterprise to protect against virus and malware infection.
The HallNet Acceptable Use Policy states you must have up to date antivirus software installed.

If you use your own antivirus software ensure it updates automatically

If you used last year's McAfee antivirus software, please uninstall it and use the new version, 8.8, which updates automatically and has increased functionality.
The McAfee Enterprise may be installed by any member of the University, either staff or student. The software must be removed from your computers once you leave the University.
First: Remove old or your own antivirus software
Next: Installing HallNet antivirus software

Download Installer (you will need your University user name and password).

Save the Installer program file to your local PC, by clicking on the Save button.

The installer is approximately 160Mb in size and may take a little while to download from off campus.

Once download is complete, click on Run to begin the installation.

Please read the license agreement before installing as this is a requirement of our agreement with McAfee.
Select I accept the terms in the license agreement, and click Next.

The McAfee installer will then install and configure McAfee Virus Scan Enterprise 8.8. During the installation you may see the progress pause for a short time. Please do not cancel the installation, it is still in progress.

After the Installation has completed, you will be prompted to reboot the computer. Please click OK to reboot your computer.

After rebooting the computer you should now see the VirusScan shield in the system tray.

Right click on this icon and select About VirusScan, and the window below will be displayed. Here you can check that your DAT file is up to date.

When you have completed this step: Register

You must now register your computer with Hallnet!
For this you will need to know your MAC address:

Click on the start button. XP: Click on Run and type cmd and click on OK. Vista/Win7: Click in the search programs and files window, type cmd and press the return key.

In the window that opens, type ipconfig /all and press the return key.

Look for the section that was Ethernet Adapter Local Area Connection, and note down the physical address.

Now, open an Internet browser and go to https://hallnet.info/register/

This completes connecting your computer to HallNet. There are a number of extra services you can configure, including printing, software, network file storage, and Google e-mail.
