Registration, Passwords, and De-registration
Registration
Staff on the monthly payroll and registered students of the University are automatically registered for a range of University IT services and given a University user name, password, and e-mail address. Postgraduate and Undergraduate students can obtain there from the Obtaining Credentials web page. Other staff will normally be given these by their department. Otherwise, please contact our Service Desk - telephone 222333.
Passwords
Staff and Students are advised to change their password regularly. When you receive it or change it. keep it secret to yourself thereafter. Divulging your password to another person (except trusted members of IT staff) is a breach of our Acceptable Use Policy. See our further advice on passwords, and details on Changing Passwords.
When we register you, we also provide you with an Athens username and password, which provides access to a variety of nationally provided data sources (Library databases). See also Eduserv Athens User Obligations.
Check your original Athens password. You must log in after clicking on the link to see your original Athens password. If you change your Athens password then this link will not show you the changed password.
Change your Athens password (you will need your current Athens username and password).

Non-standard Staff Registration
University staff not on the monthly payroll are eligible for full registration, but this needs to be requested using the registration form (staff role), or by contacting the Information Technology Service Desk IT.Services@lboro.ac.uk or telephone 222333.
For some purposes, and usually subject to a charge, we will register people who are not University staff or students, including:
-
employees of sports bodies located on campus and working in partnership with the University,
-
delegates to educational or research conferences or short courses,
-
students of other educational establishments and sporting organisations.
Not all services will be available, in particular the electronic information services provided by the library are restricted to University staff and students due to licensing restrictions. For full details of conditions and charges, see our registration policy.
Further Details - Registration Policy
A more detailed explanation of our registration policy is available, along with registration forms.
When you leave the University
When you leave the University or cease to be a salaried employee your IT registration, including your e-mail address, is no longer automatically validated by the data feed from the HR system. In the normal course of events, your access to some University systems (for example the Finance System) will be removed from the date that your contract terminates.
For most IT services, however, you will receive a warning message giving you about a month's grace before your main username and password will no longer work, and you will be unable, for example, to access your stored e-mail, or files stored on your U: drive, or on Learn. Your files and e-mail will in due course be deleted and no archive will be kept. If you have e-mail or files which should be retained by the University, or if you wish to transfer them outside the University, please contact your department IT staff in the first instance for assistance.
If you need a longer period of grace, please contact the IT Service Desk as soon as possible to arrange for a temporary extension.
If you will have a continuing role within the University, the registration policy may allow for your registration to be extended for the duration of this role, but in most cases this will not happen automatically, and you should contact the IT Service Desk for advice (see contact details above right).
If you had to request registration it is your responsibility to let us know when your association with the University ceases.
Details of the University's Registration Policies are available. This includes information about when accounts expire and how they can be renewed.
