Civil Service Careers Support - Mentors Available

Civil Service Careers Support - Mentors Available for Applicants to Tax Specialist and Civil Servant Schemes

The University has been working with the FDA trade union to support you in finding out more about how to apply for roles in the UK Civil Service including the Civil Service Fast Stream (CSFS). Civil Service roles are advertised throughout the year with the Fast Stream currently expected to open for applications for the 2025 intake in October. You can check your eligibility for the fast Stream here (applications for the 2024 intake are closed) Home | Civil Service Fast Stream For specific roles qualification requirements will be included with job adverts.

The Public Sector Development and Mentoring Scheme is run by the FDA (who represent Civil Servants in graduate entry level roles including all Fast Streamers). The scheme is supported by the Civil Service Fast Stream and the Civil Service Fast Stream Social Mobility Network . You can find out more about it by following this link https://www.fda.org.uk/home/Supportingyou/Public-Sector-Development-and-Mentoring-Scheme.aspx

The scheme offer you access to a remote mentor currently on the Civil Service Fast Stream, Tax Specialist Programme, or other scheme. The mentor will be able to advise you what benefits Civil Service roles and schemes offer and why this is something that could be a route for you. Mentoring will be conducted remotely and at a frequency that you can agree beforehand. The matches will be overseen by the University and the FDA. The amount of ‘meetings and their length will be totally up to you and your mentor. The scheme operated last year and a number of Loughborough students who were mentored have got to the final stages (now running) of the Fast Stream 2024 application process.

Mentoring will be supported by FREE online familiarisation events to support you in making your application and there will also be familiarisation events with the University and supported by Civil Service Fast Stream once the application process is conformed for Fast Stream 2025 (as we did for Fast Stream 2024).

The scheme is open to students at all stages or your degree as well as postgraduate and alumni mentees. The first step is complete the attached ‘matching’ document so you can have an initial chat with a potential mentor to see if a match with them would work for you (if not the FDA will offer another mentor).

If you would like to be matched to a mentor, please complete, and return the attached ‘matching questionnaire’ to Neil Rider at the FDA neil@fda.org.uk Neil can also answer any questions that you may have.
