BSc/PFY

If you do not have the appropriate qualifications for direct entry in to our BSc/MPhys programmes then the Physics Foundation year could be the answer. In the foundation year you will obtain a thorough grounding in Physics, Mathematics and Computing together with the opportunity to take modules in engineering, chemistry and material science. In order to progress to Part A of the degree programmes in the Department of Physics candidates must accumulate at least 90 credits and achieve 50% or better in modules MAF001 and MAF002 or at least 60% in one of these modules and 40% in the other, 60% or better in module PHF110, 50% or better in module PHF210 and 40% or better in module MMF500. This is based on the Science and Engineering Foundation Studies programme.

Students take modules of total weight 60 credits each semester. All modules have a weight of 10 credits unless a larger number is given. Modules listed in italics are optional.
