Alexander Rakhmanov

 

Alexander L. Rakhmanov, born in 1948 in Novosibirsk, Russian Federation.

Graduated from Moscow Institute for Physics and Technology in 1973.

Obtained the Candidate of Sciences (Ph.D.) degree at Institute for High Temperatures USSR Academy of Sciences in 1977 and Doctor of Physics and Mathematics degree at the same institution in 1988. The doctor thesis dealt with the electromagnetic properties and instabilities in superconductors.

The author of 2 monographs and of more than 150 papers and reviews in refereed journals. The publications are mainly concerned with physics of superconductivity and magnetism.

A.L. Rakhmanov is Vice Chairman of the Program on Novel Superconducting and Magnetic Materials in Russian Academy of Sciences. He was a team leader of several grants on magnetic and superconducting materials supported by different Russian foundations and collaborative grants with EU, US, and Japan. He regularly presents invited talks at International Conferences.

The main fields of interests during last 5-7 years are the physics of magnetoresistive materials (including giant magnetoimpedance and colossal magnetoresistance), physics of type-II superconductors, and applied superconductivity.

I Applied superconductivity

1). 1) The magnetization, magnetic susceptibility and flux-line structures in type-II superconductors (1994-2004); 2) the theory of turbulent instability in vortex matter of type-II superconductors (2001-2004); 3) the theory of the dendrite instability in vortex matter of type-II superconductors (2004-2006); 4) the dynamics of the vortices, self-organized structures, and instabilities in superconductors with artificial arrays of pinning sites (2003-2007)

III Plasma waves in layered superconductors

1) The propagation of the plasma waves in the layered superconductors with modulated properties: transition and Cherenkov radiation, photonic crystals (2004-2007); 2) the non-linear effects in the plasma wave propagation in layered superconductors (2005-2007)

IV The electrodynamics of magnetic materials

1) The theory of non-linear effects in magnetic materials exhibiting the giant magnetic impedance phenomenon (1999-2003); 2) the theory of amplification of the weak signals in ferromagnetic structures near magnetization reversal threshold (2000-2005); 3) the linear and non-linear effects in ferromagnetic films and nanocomposites (2003-2007)

VI Phase separation and related effects in the strongly correlated electron systems

1) The theoretical description of magnetoresistance, 1/f noise, and magnetic susceptibility in nano-scale metal-insulator mixtures, including phase-separated materials with colossal magnetoresistance (2000-2006); 2) the prediction of the phase separation, metal-insulator transition in the two-band strongly correlated systems with and without magnetic ordering (2005-2007)

V Macroscopic quantum tunneling

1) The theory of the quantum tunneling enhancement in the stacks of Josephson junctions and small junctions (2006-2007); 2) the theory of the resonance peak splitting in the double-well potential due to the quantum tunneling (2006)
