Small Superconductors: Superradiance and Revival

Denzil Rodrigues (Department of Physics, Bristol University)

Wednesday, 22 Oct 2003, 14.00, W0.03

Recently much attention has focussed on the possibility of using small regions of superconductors as the basis for constructing qubits for use in quantum computers. I shall review recent experimental work in this area, and go on to describe a simple theoretical model of small superconductors that can not only be used to describe these qubits in a simple manner, but also suggests the possibility of some interesting new effects in such systems that are analogue of two effects known in quantum optics: superradiance and revival.
