Luminescence pattern formation in photoexcited electron-hole bilayer.

The talk is about our recent results of molecular dynamics simulation of a spatio-temporal evolution of the locally photoexcited electrons and holes separated in two different layers. In particular, the simulation reproduces a ring-shaped luminescence pattern observed in experiments [Nature 418, 751 (2002)]. We show that the pattern forms due to the strong in-layer Coulomb interaction at high photoexcitation power. In addition, our results predict (i) a novel type of stationary spatial oscillations of electron density for quasi one-dimensional system, and (ii) dynamical phase transition in the expansion of two-dimensional electron cloud when threshold electron concentration is reached. A theoretical description explaining the transition will also be discussed.
