Field-theoretic method is proposed, that yields analytic expression for lateral pressure profile arising in a smectic fluid system formed by short flexible strings. An inter-string entropic repulsion is modeled via space-dependent self-consistent harmonic potential. The "low-temperature" limit is studied and the pressure profile is expressed solely via lowest energy eigenfunctions of the operator of the string energy density. Analytical results compare favorably with molecular dynamics simulations in lipid membranes. Relevance for the stripe-phase in underdoped high-Tc cuprates is also discussed.
