Ground state properties of Nelson's model by functional integration

József Lörinczi
(Mathematical Sciences, Loughborough)

Friday, 30 May 2008, 16.00, W2.19

Nelson's model describes the interacting system of an electrically charged quantum particle with a massless scalar boson field. I will present rigorous results on the existence and properties of the ground state by using functional integration methods. Also, I will explain how the problem of infrared and ultraviolet divergences can be solved. Although my main object will be Nelson's model, I will briefly address aspects of related problems of the Pauli-Fierz (quantized Maxwell field) model with spin and the polaron/bipolaron model.
