MOLECULAR NANOWIRES AND OTHER QUANTUM OBJECTSBled, Slovenia, 7th - 10th September 2003NATO-country co-director: Prof. Sasha Alexandrov, Loughborough University, Loughborough, UK Partner-country co-director: Prof. Igor Yanson, ILTPE, Kharkov, Ukraine The NATO ARW on "Molecular nanowires and other quantum objects" is intended to bring together state of the art expertise in molecular nanowires, mesoscopic super- and semiconductors, and theorists in the field of strongly correlated electrons and phonons from NATO-Member, NATO-Partner and Mediterranean-Dialogue countries working in university and corporate laboratories. Topics for discussion include: á molecular nanojunctions and electronics á nanoscale semiconductors and superconductors, in particular carbon nanotubes á low dimensional conductors á polarons and strongly-correlated electrons in mesoscopic objects á quantum theory of nanoscale, including first-principle simulations á new techniques for making mesoscopic sensors and detectors. The field of nano and mesoscale physics has been rapidly growing in the last decade. Therefore, much can be gained in our understanding of nanowires and quantum dots through critical assessment of the new knowledge that has come to light in the recent years. The setting will be informal with a 3 day itinerary of meetings enabling and promoting group discussions and interactions among participants. This framework will allow participants to get acquainted with a diverse cross-spectrum of available skills, and to engage in exchanging the often-complementary experiences and views. Participation is predominantly by invitation, but researches from NATO-Member, NATO-Partner and Mediterranean-Dialogue countries wishing to present important new work in the field are encouraged to apply (please send an abstract via e-mail to: a.s.alexandrov@lboro.ac.uk, yanson@ilt.kharkov.ua ). There is no conference fee. Proceedings will be published by Kluwer as a NATO Science Series book on "Molecular nanowires and other quantum objects". Registration deadline: July 18th, 2003 For more information contact and visit the Web site: http://optlab.ijs.si/arw/index.htm |
