Disabled Access Points

There is a lift situated on the ground floor for access to floors 1 and 2. Access to this lift is via the delivery yard which is located just before/after the underpass near to the West entrance (Blue section of building 8 going over Pink road campus map).  Reserved disabled parking spaces are in the delivery yard of the W building and also in the car park at the rear.

Disabled access to level 1can also be found through the automatic doors at the Physics main entrance.

Emergency Procedure

If a disabled user is situated on Level W.1 of the building when the fire alarm sounds, he/she can leave via the Main entrance / exit of the Physics Department at that level. If they are situated on any other level of the building they will need assistance as the lift cannot be used. They will be conducted to the nearest entrance to a stairway on that floor by a fire marshal. This is termed a refuge. The fire marshal will then ensure that the door to that staircase is closed when all other occupants have left. These fire doors will halt the smoke and flames from entering the refuge for a period of time. The marshal will leave the building and inform the evacuation officer immediately that a disabled person requires assistance and give exact details of their location.
