Background:

Scott graduated with a BEng degree in Metallurgy and Materials Science from the University of Liverpool in 1988 and then undertook a PhD at the same institution graduating in 1992. He is Technical Head of Materials and Corrosion in Uniper Technologies Limited's (UTG) Integrity and Inspection Solutions Department. UTG provides technical support across the whole range of both Uniper’s and external clients assets including coal, CCGT, biomass, energy from waste and wind generation. Scott’s role is to provide technical leadership and oversight of Materials activities such as R&D, failure investigation and component life assessment within the Integrity and Inspection Solutions department. Scott joined UTG in November 2005 following technical management and principal engineer roles in a number of engineering consultancies including TWI. Prior to this Scott was a Research Fellow for four years in the Department of Materials at Oxford University.

Outline of main research interests:

  • The performance of materials  in high temperature power plants.
  • The mechanical properties of steels and nickel alloys subject to creep, fatigue, oxidation, corrosion, etc.
  • Development of high temperature power plant materials.
  • Oxidation and corrosion resistant coatings.
