Jon chairs the Ceramic Science Committee and is Vice-Chairman of The Ceramics Society. He has used his international links, such as being a member of the European Ceramic Society Council, to promote ceramics, and materials science in general. Jon has received other awards and appointments this year as well, he has become a fellow of the American Ceramics Society and joined the President’s Executive Committee of the Council of the European Ceramic Society.

Jon heads up the very active Advanced Ceramics Research group in the department and has over 52 publications and awards and grants totalling over £3.3m in the last five years, but it's not all work, to get a breather from School and academic matters, Jon is also a keen participant in the departmental cricket team.
