Working with industry
The Department of Materials has strong industrial links going back over many years and is committed to developing collaborations to facilitate knowledge transfer.
Staying in touch with what industry needs is a top priority and apart from our extensive research collaborations, we have an Industrial Advisory Board made up from a strategic industrial membership and a dedicated industrial outreach staff member.
People and relationships are a key element in successful business and we offer many opportunities for business to get involved with our students, through work placements, undergraduate and postgraduate sponsored projects. Our graduates are highly sought after and many students continue to work for their placement companies after graduating.
To succeed in producing world class research and delivering an excellent learning environment to all our students, the department constantly invests in the best machinery and equipment. These facilities are available to businesses on a commercial basis and can present opportunities for complete projects, when linked with the expertise in the department.
We offer a variety of education and training for companies and their employees, designed to fit in with today’s fast pace and demanding workplace. Part time postgraduate courses are available to fit in with almost any conceivable work schedule and allow for a mix of one week attended modules and distance learning modules.
For focussed training in a specific area we offer a range of selected short courses, which are generally one week long and provide an intensive mix of lectures, practicals, case studies, group activity and tutorials. The list of these courses is revised each year to deliver new and updated content and reflect current demands.
For businesses with a specific need we can offer custom courses which can provide a cost effective way to deliver training in a specific subject area to a group of ten or more employees.
If you or your business operate in the world of materials and you would like to talk to us about your technical or training issues, we are always keen to listen and offer solutions.
