Department of Materials

We are committed to providing an academically stimulating and supportive environment for both our teaching and research in Materials. With over 300 undergraduate and postgraduate students, we offer a wide range of accredited degree programmes, key features of which are the extremely high quality of the teaching provision and excellent opportunities to spend a year in industry. Most of our academic staff have international research reputations and all have a substantial commitment to research.

Formerly named the Institute of Polymer Technology and Materials Engineering, the department is regularly either first or second in terms of the average research funding attracted per academic per year across the entire university. Our extensive international links and large research student population provide a vibrant, lively atmosphere within the department.
