The Department of Geography has a long tradition of working with, and advising, government, private sector and voluntary agencies in the UK and overseas, in the fields of urban planning and design, and environmental management. Geographical practice at Loughborough currently focuses on four areas of research specialisation.
-
The Globalization and World Cities Group, GaWC , advises on metropolitan issues relating to world city co-operation and competition.
-
Social and political geographers provide expertise on questions of social policy, decentralisation and environmental impacts in the UK and overseas.
-
Research in water resources and environmental management is linked to a range of stakeholder groups including UK local authorities, DEFRA, the Countryside Agency and the Environment Agency. An example is the TaDPoLE (Trees and Drought Project on Lowland England) Project. Recent work overseas has engaged with government organisations in Canada and Israel.
-
Research into automated methods of grain-size measurement for coarse-grained sediments have resulted in the production of the Digital Gravelometer software, marketed under the Sedimetrics brand.
As Chair of the Departments External Relations Committee, Dr Joanna Bullard may be contacted by potential users of our geographical practice. |
