| Biography Lee Miles is Professor of International Relations at Loughborough University. He is also Professor of Political Science at Karlstad University, Sweden, and holds an Honorary Professorship in Scandinavian Studies at University College, London (UCL), UK. Previous to this, he was Professor of Politics and Jean Monnet Chair in EU Government and Politics at the University of Liverpool (2004-2009) and has also held tenured positions at the Universities of Hull (1996-2004) and Lincoln (1991-1996), as well as being an Associate Fellow of Chatham House in London (2000-2004). He received his formal education at the universities of Lancaster, Birmingham and Hull. Lee is currently lead editor of Conflict and Cooperation (2010-2012) - the peer-reviewed international relations journal of the Nordic International Studies Association (NISA), as well as joint editor of the Europe and the Nation State book series published by Routledge. His research presently focuses on four major aspects. First, he explores the relevance of fusion approaches in explaining aspects of European integration and International Relations. Second, he focuses upon aspects of European Foreign Policy Analysis (FPA), with a particular interest in how national and regional actors seek ‘to get the best out of the EU’ and adapt to European integration through ‘uploading’ and ‘downloading’. Third, he investigates Nordic perspectives towards European integration, including security and external relations questions. Fourth, he has an emerging interest in the role of ‘innovation politics’ in shaping the foreign policies of the Nordic countries. Professor Miles has been highly successful in gaining external funding for research activities in recent years, having secured close to 700,000 euros worth of external funding grants since 2007. He is currently director of four major research projects funded by Nordic funding agencies (Fusing Regions Plus, EVO-SLIM, EVO-INNOVA and FUSE-TRAIN), as well as participating in two major EU funded projects (EUIMA project, (Framework 7) and LISBOAN (ERASMUS Research Group, Lifelong Learning Programme)). Prior to this he also led the Nordic Council of Ministers funded Fusing Regions? Project (2007-2009) and participated in the EU-PO-LIS Jean Monnet Multinational Group project funded by the EU’s Jean Monnet Programme (2009-2011). Some indicative publications include:
