Applying for Postgraduate Research |

The Department of Information Science welcomes applications from candidates who wish to carry out research for an MPhil or PhD. Students can study on a part-time or full-time basis. Students are expected to design their own projects, but are encouraged to seek guidance from the Director of Research Degree Programme before submitting a full proposal. In particular the Department is happy to receive proposals within areas of expertise. Qualifications Applicants should have, or expect to have by October of the year of application, an undergraduate degree (with an upper second or first class honours) in Information and Library Studies, or a postgraduate qualification in these areas. However, applications from those with qualifications in other, relevant disciplines will also be considered, as will those from people without the appropriate educational qualifications but with professional experience or qualifications (eg FLA). Applicants whose first language is not English, must provide evidence of competence in English (a minimum IELTS result of 6.5 (with a minimum of 6.0 in each aspect, and a minimum of 6.5 in reading and 7.0 in writing) or a TOEFL result of 600 is required.)
