Loughborough University research to revolutionise pharmaceuticals manufacturing

September 2011

Loughborough University has been awarded more than £1.1 million to help revolutionise manufacturing techniques for the pharmaceuticals industry.

The main aim of the CrySys project is to improve efficiency and quality in the production of crystalline goods, such as drugs, whilst at the same time reduce wastage and energy costs.

This pioneering research is being led by the Department’s Professor Zoltan Nagy, with funding from the European Research Council.

Chemical Engineering students win BP Ultimate Field Trip 2011

A team of students from the Department is set to gain a real-life taste of working in the oil and gas industry, after winning the 2011 BP Ultimate Field Trip. The trio of Chemical Engineering undergraduates, known collectively as ‘Rigid Ideas’, wowed the competition judges, as well as the event host, Professor Brian Cox, with their forward thinking and innovative hydrogen production-based technology that answered a tough challenge set by BP.

Student wins 1st prize in the Particle Technology Forum (PTFUK)

Congratulations to Erum Aamir for winning first prize in the Particle Technology Forum (PTFUK). She was awarded with young researcher's award for her research work presented at this event. Erum is also selected for the 117th training course at BASF Company, Germany. During this training she has an opportunity to meet young researchers from all over the world and learn from their experiences also.

Student wins "Temporary of the Year"

February 2009

Mustafa Mohamed (Industrial Year Student) was awarded with the title "Temporary of the Year" and received a cash prize from the Room at the Top Recruitment. This award was given to Mustafa in recognition of the excellent comments given by his Manager in a survey done by the agency. His name was also mentioned in an editorial in the local newspaper published in Hoddesdon, Hertfordshire.
